During my visit of Moldova I saw there lots of beautiful and picturesque places. It’s very pity that the Moldavians can’t put the tourist’s business on a high level to attract the visitors from the whole world to come to their country. The Republic of Moldova is a very small country that is even invisible on the map. But being there I admired the beautiful nature and wonderful places. Different travel agencies can suggest you various tours to the Moldavian monasteries and churches. Well, if you’ll decide to visit some of those places then you have to go to Tsipova. I’ve heard much about that place and decided to see it with my own eyes. And, believe me, it was worth it. Well, we left Chisinau and started our trip to Tsipova. It took us two hours to get there.

The sights on the way to that magnificent place were wonderful. If I were an artist I’d draw those wonderful hills, small villages, lakes and forests. Each place has its own beauty and attraction. At last we came to Tsipova. Our car stopped near a small church. It didn’t differ from other churches at all. “Oh, is it that famous monastery?” I thought. “What am I doing here? » But then the guide came and led us to the opposite direction from the church. On the way we saw a small meadow and came to the brink of the precipice I saw the Dnister River. It is a wide and meandering river.

Well, our road frightened me a lot. We had to go down the path which wasn’t asphalted and we couldn’t grasp any hand-rail. It was rather dangerous. The path looked dangerous because it was narrow with sudden turnings and it was surrounded by the precipices. On the way we saw the small cave, we went in and I saw a big icon there. I saw also a stone stove-bench with a blanket on it there.

At last we came to the monastery. When we came in I felt that we were in a mysterious and holy place. There were candles, icons and monks everywhere. The rooms where the monks lived looked unattractive. Those cells were used only for sleeping and praying. I wonder how the monks could sleep on a stone floor that was covered only with a blanket. The ceiling was very low so, to come into a cell and to spend the time there you have to pitch down your head. Then we went down the steps to the basement and I thought that we’re lost cause I couldn’t find the way out. Everybody had to bend theirselves down cause the ceilings were lower than in the cells. I was very sorry for those monks who had to move in such way every day. It’s not so easy! At last we came out from that basement and everybody began to stretch their bodies.

But I knew that another trip was waiting for me. We decided to make an excursion to the waterfall. That road was more dangerous then the way to the monastery. I hoped that we shouldn’t climb those dangerous “rocks”. But, I had to say good-bye to all my hopes. On the way to the waterfall we had to jump, to climb, and to crawl. Then we reached the road that was between two rocks and decided to have a rest. We saw a spring there and drank some water. Oh, water! It was so long-expected, sweet and cold water! There was a big cross near that spring. It amazed me a lot. The cross was approximately two meters high and it was decorated with flowers. Some meters further we saw the waterfall. It was wonderful! I didn’t know where the water flows from as I didn’t see the river. It seemed that the water ran just from the mountain.

I wonder how it could be that such small and unknown country is so rich with natural sights. You see, we never know what and where is waiting for us. I didn’t want to leave that place. I felt something greater than pleasure, I felt how the pacification spread in my soul and in my mind. Listening to the sounds of falling water I didn’t think at anything. I even didn’t want to think. But, as you know, the time presses and we had to go back. We returned the same way but it hasn’t seemed so difficult for me yet. Though I’ve had a chance to fall down from the precipice but my friends and the branches of the trees have saved my life.

That wonderful day was full of emotions. I felt tired, but happy. My companions told me that there is another place in Moldova with the same views. The name of this place is Saharna and I decided to go there next time.

Away from the bustle of the Beltway and the imposing monuments of American history rests a part of Virginia where things happen more slowly, and for the better. Here the beautiful birds indigenous to northern Virginia flutter and frolic without a care in the world; the pilated Woodpeckers beat a rhythmic tattoo in search of food, the goldfinches dance in the air, and the majestic eagle soars over land settled by the early fathers. Northern Virginia is a birdwatcher’s paradise, literally and figuratively.

For a relaxing vacation in the great outdoors, nothing beats a serene morning of nature at play. In the Stafford area of northern Virginia, there are a number of spots away from the usual tourist traps where one can enjoy the show of beautiful summer plumage and birdsong.

Aquia Landing

A public beach in Northern Virginia? True, this area might not have the beachy feel of towns on the southern shore, but Aquia Landing offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere and ample opportunity for birdwatching.

Abel Reservoir

There’s more than fish biting at this popular picnic spot. If the idea of sitting in a boat for hours in this fully-stocked lake holds no appeal, take a hike along the many trails bordering the water. Abel Reservoir is one of the most beautiful, natural spots in the county, home to many flying friends.

Washington’s Ferry Farm

The former home of a great founding father has hosted nearly 100 known species of birds! So popular is this area that the farm hosts regular birding tours. This informative morning will teach you everything you want to know about the mating and living habits of these creatures.

Chatham

Stroll through the gardens of this famous Virginia manse and you might spy a few finches among the flowers. The beauty of Chatham mansion is enhanced daily by the many species of birds that flutter among the grounds.

From public beachs to living museums, northern Virginia provides a home to many species of birds. Grab your binoculars and zoom lens camera and be ready, because you never know what to expect when you go birding in Virginia.

Caribbean cruises are generally broken into 3 main itineraries: Western Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean and Southern Caribbean. We will describe each one for those who aren’t familiar with these routes. The Western Caribbean itineraries typically depart from Galveston, TX; New Orleans; Mobile, AL; Tampa, FL; Miami, FL and sometimes from Port Canaveral, FL. These routes will include ports of call like Cozumel, Mexico; Belize; Grand Cayman; Jamaica and Costa Maya, Mexico. You can take 4, 5, 7 day, or longer, cruises from most of the ports we listed.

Sometimes, certain cruise lines will offer 8 day or longer cruises that travel further south down towards the Panama Canal. They usually call these “Exotic Western Caribbean Cruises” because they are ports of call that are not usually found on your typical 7 day cruise. These will offer ports like Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; the Panama Canal, itself; and, if your lucky, Aruba. The Eastern Caribbean itineraries will usually depart from ports like Miami, FL; Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Port Canaveral, FL and now, from Bayonne, NJ and New York!

The Eastern Caribbean routes usually include San Juan, PR; St. Thomas, USVI; St. Maarten; Tortola, BVI and Labadee, Hispaniola (Haiti). The Southern Caribbean itinerary is one of the most beautiful. These usually depart from San Juan, PR but occasionally you will find an 8 day or longer cruise to the Southern Caribbean that originates from the mainland. The ports of call that are typically found on the Southern Caribbean route are: St. Thomas, USVI; St. Maarten; Dominica; St. Lucia; Antigua; Barbados; Aruba and Curacao.

Now, typically, the airfare is usually more for most people to fly into San Juan, but the cruise lines know this so they usually lower the price of the cruise, in comparison to a mainland departure, to compensate for this. We have a personal preference that is as follows: Southern Caribbean, Eastern Caribbean and then Western Caribbean.

In Flight Airline Rapid Decompression Breached Window
(Airline Safety)

Here is a concept worthy of mention about the issues concerning Airline International Terrorists and Guns in the Cockpit and of course Federal Air Marshals. If a gun goes off in a smaller airliner, 737 or 767 then a bullet could penetrate a window and breach the pressurization system. Now if you read science fiction there is this cool Author named Ben Bova and in one of his books return to Mars, which is worth a read since we are getting back some interesting photos now. He talks about the outpost and enclosed colony where the hull was breached and the air was escaping, valuable oxygen, the members of the team quickly threw up small patches which as the air escaped flung themselves to the breached hole and sealed by way of vacuum.

I propose a similar notion and this is one of the safety protocols of former MIR and International Space Station now. The over head bins above the windows are shaped the same shape as the fuselage interior and when the air escapes and sucks everything towards it the first thing it sucks down is the bottom of the baggage overhead bin which is on a hinge. It then sucks itself in place while the pressurization system works to bring the stability back. In a 747 this is not too critical as the inlet for the pressurization cabin system is twice the size of a window and the pressurization system could keep up with a breach the size of a window. With these small modifications and molding shape of the overhead bins the problem is solved. The bottom of the bins would need to be a tad bit stronger such as carbon fiber to withstand the suction, but double strengthened re-enforced plastic, composite or fiberglass coated with rubber ought to work fine. This way bullets in cockpits intended for terrorists will not be an issue with pressure at those altitudes above 10,000 feet.

Another idea is to neoprene covered mini Frisbees made of high tech super strength plastic in the pockets of stewardesses, and in the event of a small breach they simply pick them up and toss them towards the hole which will suck them into place.

If you are into history and you love learning about the Civil War then you need to take a trip through Gettysburg. I had the privilege of growing up in the area and was able to spend many weekends in the Gettysburg National Park, driving around and looking at the history that is so predominant in that area. I also spent a lot of time looking at the wildlife that was around, and since they were protected by the government they were there in large numbers. I can remember seeing herds of deer out in the open fields that just stayed there and let you look at them for a long time, they simply weren’t afraid. Here is the route that I took through Gettysburg and what it is that I got to see.

Coming from the area of Waynesboro you enter Gettysburg and go to the top of a hill. A light at the top of the hill is your signal to turn right and enter the park. Along the first stretch of road there are several privately owned buildings as well as some farm land but soon you will begin to see the cannons. The rows of cannons sit looking across the open fields, silent now but still bringing visions of smoke and war into your mind. After going through this part of the trip you will come to an observation tower. If you are brave enough to climb the stairs to the top you will get a birds eye view of the park.

Going further around the road you will come to the areas of little round top and big round top. You will also be able to look down across the small valley and over to Devil’s Den. It was from that large group of rocks that snipers fired over to big round top and the gunfire was returned. Take some time to read the plaques on Big Round Top, they are very interesting.

The road then travels down past Devil’s Den and eventually find it’s way over to the Pennsylvania Monument and is in the area of the goal of Pickett’s Charge. This is an interesting part of the drive and is near some nice museums where you can learn more about the area. The road finally empties out into civilization again and if you take right you will find yourself going right into the Gettysburg Square. There are a lot of places to eat along the way. I hope that you enjoy your visit to Gettysburg and that you took my old route past all the history.

Inflatable fishing boats are great yacht tenders/camping boats that are light enough to be carried in a backpack. Some 8-foot inflatable fishing boats are good for two and gear, and are large enough to float in moderate whitewater rivers. They can also be used as a large yacht tender. Inflatable fishing boats that are 9-foot long can carry enough gear for a long outdoor journey, and make a great fishing boat.

Most inflatable fishing boats fold small enough to be transported easily in a car trunk. They weigh around 40 lbs without running boards and are lightweight enough to be carried to nearby waterways. Inflatable fishing boats are really versatile. They are equally suitable for fishing, diving, or as a pleasure cruiser. In addition to versatility and despite their large size, inflatable fishing boats are very easy to row.

To make things more enjoyable, fit the Inflatable Fishing Boat with a small 4 hp motor and the craft will go around all day on just a gallon of gas. In places that ban gas engines, one could attach an equivalent electric motor. Whatever one’s purpose, from fishing to Class 3 whitewater running, inflatable fishing boats are up to the job.

Inflatable fishing boats are cheap and durable boats well-suited for weekend fishing or hunting and camping trips. They are compact, and can be carried to the water by a couple of people. Despite this, inflatable fishing boats are spacious and rugged enough to handle almost any conditions.

The prices of inflatable fishing boats vary from $30 to $450 depending on the size and number of running boards.

A primary unusual destination

For the broad-minded personalities always in search for the unusual there is Soekershof Walkabout in Klaas Voogds West between Robertson and Ashton in South Africa’s Western Cape.
‘Weird but Passionate’ hosts; great stories; a wealth of plant life; the worlds’ largest hedge-maze; time-travel with Albert Einstein; a stone-age cinema; the New South African Handshake; Philosophers Garden and, of course, the highly acclaimed succulent gardens with more than 2400 different species from all over the world in the unprotected open air.

You can earn a memorable reward by fulfilling a quest in the Klaas Voogds Maze.

This Maze is not a Maze in the traditional perception that you have to get lost but is a reflection of life; walking from one story into another which are visualised by objects, as orientating points, towering above the hedges. However there are, as in life, also a few ’stories’ you will have to look for. And …….. you are invited to make your own stories.

A visit to Soekershof is hard to describe for it is a very personal experience as you can discover in the ‘In-depth info’ section of this website
The own Soekershof nursery distinguishes itself from other (specialist) nurseries by providing visitors with sufficient customised cultivation information in line with local environmental conditions.

For the quick ones: a visit takes at least 1.5 to 2 hrs.
Duration average visit: approx. 3 hrs.

Visitors are invited to bring their own picnic.

Opening times: Wednesday to Sunday between 8.00 AM and 4.00 PM. Closed on Monday and Tuesdays and in July except (public) holidays and pre-paid bookings.

Admission fee: R 40.00 pp (>12 yr), R 20.00 (

Montana is a huge state with a variety of monthly events and, of course, skiing in the winter months. When you’re in Big Sky country you can’t help but spend some time under and enjoy as much of the outdoors as you can during the day and stay toasty warm inside. In Big Sky there is a huge Fireworks Kick Off Show that is held at the Mountain Mall Plaza. The show lights up Lone Peak and you get to stay toasty warm around the bonfire. The show is every weekend through the end of the ski season. Great for after a day at the slopes.

The night sky was very important in mapping out this rough western country. With their monthly Star Party in Great Falls, the USDA Forest Service and the Central Montana Astronomy Society holds the event to educate the public on how Lewis and Clark used the stars to chart their course. The groups set up large telescopes for public viewing and they offer great explanations on how you can travel by the stars. The Winternational Sports Festival is an eight-week event with nineteen activities. Activities range from indoor tennis to skiing, speed skating and bench pressing. Everyone is invited to participate. The event covers the entire month of February and March. This is southwest Montana’s largest event.

The Race to the Sky Sled Dog Race kicks off at Camp Remini near Helena. In addition to the race there will be children’s games, events, a celebrity mush, and a mutt pulling. In the evening of the first day you are invited to bid on the opportunity to ride a sled with a competitor. The race runs through Hi-Country Snack Foods in Lincoln and Cane Ridge. The race also runs through the White Tail Ranch near Ovando, the Seeley Lake Community Center in Seeley Lake and then to the wilderness outside Seeley Lake and finishing in Lincoln. This race is a qualifying race for the Alaskan Iditarod.

Traveling through Montana can be treacherous. They often see a lot of snowfall during this time of the year so it is important that you take the appropriate safety precautions. Always pack warm and be sure to keep a blanket in your car. Keep your headlights and taillights clean in snowy weather and make sure that your defrost works well. Always test the road and travel with a safe distance between cars. Don’t get in a hurry and do not use your cruise control in winter driving.

Here are some important things about Italy that you may not know which will be helpful if you decide to visit.

*Culture
Italy is home to many of the world’s historical and cultural treasures. What’s more, 41 of the UNESCO World Heritage sites are located there. Whether you are interested in art (Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Michelangelo), opera (Puccini, Verdi) or architecture (Venice, Rome, Florence), your senses will be aroused by the beauty all around you.

*Regions
There is a strong regional influence which runs through Italian life. One of the things about Italy many people do not know is that it was only unified as a nation state at the end of the 19th century. So the role of regions, their food, their customs and individual laws is still important. Having said this, Italy was one of the 6 founder members of the European Union in 1957, and has always been at the heart of the European integration movement. It was one of the first countries to adopt the Euro.

*Public Holidays
Italy has many national public holidays throughout the year (as well as a few regional ones) and these can catch the traveller by surprise if he is not forewarned! It is always best to check opening times of museums and galleries on such days, as well as paying extra attention to railway and bus timetables. Banks are usually closed on these public holidays:

January 1st, January 6th, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, 25th April (Liberation Day), 1st May, 2nd June (Republic Day), 15th August, 1st November, 8th December, 25th and 26th December.

*Clothes Shopping
Visitors are often impressed by the stylish dress of the Italians they meet. But did you know that you can buy designer clothing at a fraction of the original price by taking a short tour out of Florence? This is one of the things about Italy that makes it so attractive for the bargain hunter. There are Prada and Gucci designer outlets at 30% -50% discount, so you can stock up on fashion items and leather goods.

*Food and Drink
Italian food and drink is not all pizza, pasta and Chianti wine! Look out for these special things: extra virgin olive oil (which is claimed to have health-giving properties), Parmesan cheese (which strictly speaking should only come from the Parmigiano Reggiano area to be truly authentic), Brunello di Montalcino (particularly fine red wine which is sometimes kept for 50 years before drinking) and finally the famous truffles (tartufi) which taste fantastic grated over pasta.

*Accommodation
As well as hotels there are lots of other accommodation possibilities. Why not relax in your own Italian villa, to use a base for tours and excursions? Or a farmhouse with original features like wooden beams, vaulted brick ceilings and arches? If you have children, perhaps a stay in an “agriturismo” – an Italian working farm – where you can immerse yourself in the rural Italian way of life and enjoy the hospitality of the owners.

There are so many things about Italy to discover and enjoy. It is the perfect vacation destination!

Gillian Dearnley has been a lover of all things Italian for 20 years. Her company One Stop Italy arranges self-catering vacation accommodation throughout Italy. Visit her website at onestopitaly.com/ www.onestopitaly.com/ and browse the online catalogues with over 2000 accommodation possibilities. Help and personal advice a speciality.
